I Like it Strong, but not THAT Strong...

...Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment VS. 2 minute Reconstructor

I got a comment/question from a reader which inspired this post (Hey girl if you're reading :-))
Yes I have picked up the Aphogee two step. But I seen the Aphogee two minute treatment. Do you know the difference in the two?

After looking back at my hair habits and taking note of the products I used, it's no wonder I was having an issue with dry hair recently. I had been using so many protein-containing products and of course, these 2 are right there in the mix. Anyway, this is what I have to say about these two products.

I had heard a lot about the Aphogee 2 step protein treatment prior to purchasing it, and because I had dry hair, with some (but not too much) breakage, I decided to give it a go during the wash day before my last relaxer. I did as the package said: shampooed my hair, applied the product, used heat to set it, rinsed and conditioned with the balancing moisturizer. While others who have tried it sung its praise, something just did not click for me. My hair felt pretty much the same (womp womp).

While I only used the 2 step treatment once, the reconstructor had been more of a staple in my regimen. Between the rinsing of the relaxer and the neutralising steps, I applied my 2 minute reconstructor. I not only used it on relaxer day, but also about 2X each month.

My regimen was really heavy in protein which obviously (now) wasn't needed. Although there was too much protein going around in my regimen, I still really liked the 2 minute reconstructor much better than the 2 step, as it is quicker, less messy, has a more pleasant smell and is milder on your hair. I don't know when I'll do another 2 step treatment (which sucks as I still have some product remaining), but I know that come next relaxer, I'll be using the 2 minute reconstuctor for my mid-process treatment. I will continue to use it about once a month thereafter, or less if necessary.

For now, I'm continuing with my moisture-based regimen. I am seeing great results but that's a whole 'notha post.

Have you used the any of the aforementioned Aphogee products? How did you fair?

XOXO,
Abbi

  1. i've tried the 2-step system as well after reading many reviews on it.
and, much like you, i wasn't impressed.
first off, the smell, LAWD - i'm gagging as i type this, it's so horrid.
and the fact that i had to sit under a hooded dryer to set the product just made everything worse.
the things i'll do for healthy hair, haha.

but upon rinsing it out, i didn't find it did anything amazing.
i used it once or twice again and still, nothing spectacular.
so, the bottles now sit under my bathroom sink collecting dust.

i'm intrigued by the 2-min reconstructor as a mid-step treatment though.
right now i use hair mayonnaise right after my "texture softener" and really love that.
i also put chi silk infusion onto my hair and into my relaxer and have noticed that my hair is shinier post relaxer...

    longest comment ever.
    k, bye.

    1. Yes! I hated the hardening of the hair. It stuck to my skin and I could barely move! The 2 minute is definitely great as a mid process step, give it a try.

hahaha thank you for giving BTW your longest comment ever. lol

  2. The 2 step was my saving grace at the beginning of my journey. My hair loves protein so using the 2 minuts every week do me no harm :)

    1. Oh I see. You are one of the lucky ones, many of us don't have that success with the 2 step. The 2 minute is pretty good though.

Also, I was like you in the beginning, using lots and lots of protein, my hair loved it at first, but then I ended up with an overload, so be careful K.

  3. My nose hates the 2-step, but I swear by its strengthening abilities. I used it faithfully in the beginning of my journey to curb breakage but I've since discovered Nexxus Emergencee--which does the same thing (but a little better), none of that runny sticky mess, and the scent is actually pleasant!

    1. lol I've heard of the Nexxus Emergencee, but never used it. If I'm ever in need of a hard protein treatment, I'll def give it a go. Thanks

  4. I would just suggest that you try to use a deep moisturizing conditioner after the balancing moisturizer, because the balancing moisturizer is not enough on it own.
